Home energy saving grant, SEI accepting applications.

7 August 2008 No Comment

The governments energy saving grant scheme is now accepting applications. It is to made available to developments that fall under the “cluster housing” phase of the plan, a cluster must consist of more than 5 houses and will apply to improvements to increase home energy efficiency measures in existing dwellings such as:

  • Wall and Roof Insulation
  • Heating Controls (thermostatic radiator valves, timers etc.)
  • Low Emissivity Double Glazing

The maximum grant available of €2500 will cover up to 30% of the cost of the works carried out. These works will have to be approved by a certified Building Energy Rating (BER) Assessor and the homeowner will have to pre-pay €100 of the cost of this assessment. It is estimated that two thirds of the cost of an assessment will be covered by the Government through Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI). Minister Ryan said,

…that householders can save up to €500 a year by bringing their houses up to modern energy efficiency standards.” “This scheme will help Ireland meet our climate change targets at the same time as assisting the householder with energy costs. Householders will save on their electricity and heating bills; they will use their energy more wisely and increase the re-sale value on their homes. The Scheme will also be welcome news for the house-building sector

The scheme will initially operate in North Tipperary, Limerick, Clare and Dundalk. Its possible to apply online or by post.
